Grading Collectible Albums
from www.vinylrecords-andmore.com

Grading the condition of vinyl records can be quite arbitrary because every person is going to have a different perception of what is good and what is bad. Everyone's eyesight and hearing is a little bit different. Vinyl records can look great but if a record has been Armor alled to look shiny it will probably sound like s***. In the same sense, sometimes a record will look all scratched up but play just fine with minimal surface noise. This would indicate that it was played with proper well maintained equipment but not handled with the best of care. If you collect records for the music it is what's in the groove that counts. Below are some pretty good guidelines to use when buying vinyl records. There are quite a few points to consider when grading a record. When reading the record ads you will encounter many abbreviations describing these points.

Remember - Look very closely in good light at all angles. It might look good looking at it straight on but tip it a bit and you could find all kinds of little defects that could affect its sound quality.

I have made sure to check carefully and grade these albums on there condition.
No album has been armour alled....

Still Sealed (SS)

This sounds real good but a word of caution here is necessary. Albums can be resealed, so unless it is a fairly recent release, look very closel. There are still some out there but they are rare. Scrutinize carefully, especially if it is 10 years or older. European imports are generally not sealed at the factory

Mint (M)

Perfect condition, never played

Near Mint (NM)

Almost perfect. Should show no signs of wear. jacket should have no creases, holes, split seams or any other degrading conditions

Very Good Plus (VG+)

A well cared for record that shows signs that it has been played. Playing surface may have some slight signs of wear with some minor scuffs and scratches that don't affect the sound on playback. Jacket will show some slight ring wear and slight wear marks at the seams and corners. Other than the minor imperfections this would almost be considered Near Mint. "Excellent" is sometimes used in place of VG+

Very Good (VG)

The defects found in a VG+ record will be more evident and more in number. Noticeable but not overbearing surface noise may be noticed. groove wear may be noticeable along with scratched that could affect the sound.
The label could have writing, tape or stickers, along with residue left behind when removed.

Good (G)

Not BAD, but playable without any skips. Plenty of surface noise, scratched and wear in general. All the defects from above will be amplified. Unless it is a real rarity, move on.

Poor (P), Fair (F)

Warped, broken, won't play without skipping, jacket thrashed. great for target practice, table leg shims, or making artsy stuff with, like coasters or mobiles.

Just a Personal Note

All albums listed here have been played at least one last time to digitize into our PC for our own musical enjoyment.
It is always such a great tradition to have held all these albums in our lifetime, but now, with the aid of high tech,
we will no longer have to haul the hundreds of pounds of albums that we have owned.

We are happy to be able to allow the world an opportunity to find perhaps that one album
you have been searching for and now it is.

All conditions of album in less than GOOD condition will have to find themselves in some charitable organizations record rack..
All the rest of them, please have at them and Enjoy !!!

Thank You for looking at the Albums that keep us making beautiful BeesWax Candles
